Gig Morton is a Canadian actor, known for portraying Derby in Mr. Young.

Biography[]

Gig was born in Comox, British Columbia, Canada. His parents are Christine and Gary Morton. He is the youngest of four children. Gig got his name from his dad, Gary, who works as a building inspector in Comox. Gig became Gary's nickname, when his younger brother was learning to talk. When their fourth child turned out to be a boy, Christine and Gary decided to give their son his Dad's nickname as his proper name. Having three older sisters who were entertained by most things he did has made Gig a natural performer. Gig got his start as young actor when he appeared in four consecutive Walt Disney hit "Buddies" franchise movies, including "Air Buddies", "Snow Buddies", "Space Buddies" and "Santa Buddies," Gig has also appeared in television series such as "Psych" for the USA Network, and "Fear Itself" for NBC.

Reluctantly tagging along with his older sisters to audition for The Wizard of Oz, the seven-year-old Gig found himself performing on stage. It soon became obvious that performing was a natural for Gig. He went on to study acting in Nanaimo, B.C. and Vancouver.

Gig has enjoyed working with many accomplished actors. He played opposite Nicole Eggert in the cable feature "Past Lies." Gig had a lead role in "Christmas Town" opposite Nicole de Boer. This is the story of a little boy who is trying to rekindle the spirit of Christmas in his mother. The role was significant for Gig because he got to play a little boy who believed anything was possible. Working with Lou Diamond Phillips in "The Angel and the Badman" was another great experience for the young actor. In December of 2009 Gig worked with noted actor Callum Keith Rennie on an episode of "Shattered."

As well as working on Mr. Young through the past year Gig has appeared on Urban Rush and Breakfast Television. He performed live in "Tap Tonight" at the Stanley Theatre and in "Tap! Buffet" Style in Vancouver. Gig was featured in the Click Clique on YouTube. He has done a live interview with Bop and TigerBeat as well as with Fanlala at Rolling Robots in Los Angeles, California.

Gig was born in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, where he studied guitar, Tap Dancing, Ballet, Hip Hop Dance, and Musical Theatre and singing. He has passed grade 5 levels of Speech and Dramatic Arts through Trinity Guildhall in London. Always interested in learning, Gig continues to take dance, piano and vocal lessons in Vancouver, while working on "Mr. Young." When Gig has free time he is always researching and learning. One of his passions is science, specifically astronomy. Gig enjoys nothing more than getting out his telescope on a clear night and searching the sky for a glimpse at the wonders of the universe.

Above all Gig loves to entertain and make people laugh.
