Adam and Derby[src]

Mr. Ballerina is the eighth episode in Season 1 of Mr. Young, as well as the eighth episode of the series.

Synopsis[]

When Adam discovers that Slab is secretly taking ballet, he and Derby follow him to dance class, hoping to blackmail him into behaving at school.

Overview[]

Adam shows to the class a few giant rib bones from a woolly mammoth, preserved for 10,000 years. He soon finds out Slab was eating the remaining flesh in the bones, and chases him in the classroom to fetch the bone. Derby, seeing the situation, decides to do some "cave painting": in the chalkboard, he draws Slab throwing the bone into Adam, and later cooking him in a fire.

In the school quad, Echo tries to get signatures for the school's Eco Club. She gives Derby a paper (specifically squid income parchment made from discarded corn husks), which he uses to write down a girl's phone number, annoying her because it was the only paper available. She tells him they also added recycle bins in the school, and gives him recommendations on how properly dispose of a plastic bottle, before they notice Dang throwing everything into a single bin, which she soon runs away to catch.

In the hallway, Adam speaks in the phone to a curator for the museum he borrowed the rib bones from, who's obviously angry at the fact the flesh (and the bones) were now irretrievable. As the two watch Slab's moves when stealing a book from a nerd, the two realize that Slab secretly took ballet, and decide to use this as leverage against him. Derby doesn't understand this at first, but when Adam tells him it was blackmail, he shows him a bunch of spy devices in his hoodie, including a teddy cam.

Echo goes to look for Deng in the school's janitor closet; she initially doesn't find him, but he shows up when she mentions his name. She asks if he was mixing the garbage cans with the recycling cans, which he initially denies before admitting he did mix the cans "occasionally" with a series of other items, including food waste, raw sewage, and car batteries, albeit drawing the line at medical waste, unless there was waste to dispose of, leading Echo to storm out of the closet. Meanwhile, Adam and Derby go to the Krampinova Dance Academy to encounter Slab, but don't immediately notice him, which Adam blames on Derby asking for a girl's phone number. The two open a door to the classroom, and face Madame Krampinova, who denies entrance as the two were not dancers (or delivery guys). While Derby prefers the latter, Adam tells him they would get in as dancers.

Back in the school quad, Echo ravages the school's garbage cans, attempting to organize all the mess Deng has created.

Memorable quotes[]

Derby: That's easy, so I can just put this (grabs bottle) in the plastic bin?
Echo: If you want to rip off Mother Earth's head and poop down her neck.

Derby: We'll have to learn how to drive. Then hope they're hiring at the borscht bar. Then, learn what borscht is.

Echo: Cans, bottles, newspapers... these don't go together.
Dang: Much like bun tom ga noung and chocolate milk.
Echo: Ugh! (grabs bag) I don't even know what this is.
Dang: That bun tom ga noung and chocolate milk!

Trivia[]

  • This is Principal Tater's first absence in the series.
  • Madison debuts in this episode, although she is credited only as "Cute Girl".
  • Derby is shown to be an exceptional dancer, as he was chosen to be the lead role and gain experience from a few seconds of class, despite Slab doing ballet for a longer period of time.
  • Slab crossdresses for the first time in this episode.
  • As of this episode, Dang uses his new mop, the Bucketmaster-X7 Deluxe.

Errors[]

  • When Adam reveals that he does ballet, two girls are seen walking away from Derby. But in the next seen, they reappear next to Derby when the latter says "Mr. Young does ballet?!".
  • Both Slab and Madame Krampinova would've suffered terrible illnesses after eating prehistoric meat.
